Ice Trees

Ice Trees

A quick little post on some photos I took during the winter storm we had here in the PNW a couple weeks ago. With significant snow fall (for this area anyway) for a number of days, coupled with temps that yo-yo’d above and below freezing, we ended up with some pretty amazing ice formations. Inches of snow that was lightly and peacefully rested on top of trees turned to heavy ice after temps flip-flopped numerous times. It made for some picture opportunities not common for the region, and an even more interesting morning when temps finally decided to stay on the warmer side. A number of times during the night I was abruptly woken by the cracking sound of trees toppling, as they could no longer support the weight of the heavy ice that had started to loosen it’s stiff grip. At points I was just waiting for a tree to come through the roof. There were some amazingly loud cracks and booms going on out there. The next morning’s drive revealed the extent of the damage, with just about every tree with at least a little damage, and a lot of a full tree falls. Any who, here are a couple pics I took while things were still serene and pretty.
