12 Feb The Mahala Dancers
The Mahala belly dancers performed at the masquerade dance I attended last weekend. It was a surprise for me, thinking I was showing up to shoot people dressed in interesting costumes, and out come a group of belly dancers! The group performed twice throughout the evening, and were very entertaining. They ended up being my main photographic focus of the evening.
Yet another occasion where I was glad I lugged my huge camera bag packed some flashes. Behind that big red curtain you see in the pictures above was a large stage area. It was black abyss and I saw a creative lighting opportunity. I snagged the dancers to take some quick silhouette shots. With a single flash until coupled with a pocket wizard sitting behind them, I had the dancers perform some moves. Below are some of the results. The most unexpected photo opportunity and the most fun shots of the evening. Gotta love that!
A big thanks to the dancers, Anya, Gretchen, and Ruthie for letting me have some fun.
